2023 Three Day Walk

I hope this letter finds you well. On this Thanksgiving weekend, as we count our blessings and reflect on what we are grateful for, I wanted to take a moment to express my deep gratitude to you for your incredibly generous donation to Susan G Komen in support of our 3-day, 60-mile walk which we successfully finished last weekend. Your belief in our cause and your willingness to support us financially made a significant impact. I am thrilled to share that, with your help, Paula, Donna, and I collectively raised about $13,000, contributing to the overall success of the 20th Anniversary San Diego Walk. With about 1500 walkers and 300 crew members we raised an incredible $5.3 million, which will directly support critical research, education, screening, treatment programs and financial assistance where needed for those affected by breast cancer.

The entire experience of participating in the 3-day “Pink Bubble” was incredibly rewarding. Each day, we were overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from the amazing individuals (and their dogs) along the routes. Their  encouragement, clever signs, and costumes brought laughter and joy to our long and tiring journey, and we were especially touched by those we saw repeatedly over the three days. Their tireless support (and never ending supplies of chocolates and candy bars) were a testament to the enduring commitment of the community to the fight against breast cancer. In fact, I heard many repeat walkers say that San Diego was their favorite walk because of the strong outpouring of support from our community.

In undertaking this journey, I walked with a deep sense of honor and purpose for our friends and family members who, unfortunately, did not win their battle with breast cancer. Their memory fueled my determination. Additionally, I walked in solidarity with the countless brave and inspirational survivors, celebrating their strength and resilience.

The most touching moment for me on this walk (I’m fighting back tears again, right now) was a house on Pacific Beach Drive that had a huge banner stretched all the way across it that read “Thank you, from a One Month Survivor.” A woman who looked to be about 40 with a scarf covering her bald head, was inside standing in the big picture window blowing kisses to us while her husband was outside thanking us for walking. Shouts of “YOU ARE WHY WE WALK!” and loud cheers continued throughout the very long procession of walkers as they passed by that house.

Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. I am truly grateful to have individuals like you standing beside us in this important cause. I hope to have photos of this year’s walk up soon on our website; www.JulianJuggernauts.com

Wishing you joy and good health this holiday season.

With warmest regards,

Nancy
